We recently had the pleasure of hosting Lucy and Nikki on our Swisse Acts of Wellness podcast! These besties turned business partners run their own fashion label, JGR & STN and also host one of Australia’s most popular podcasts, Happy Hour with Lucy and Nikki.

Right before our podcast record, we got to ask them a few fun, fast-fire questions - here’s what they had to say.

1. What is your top tip for anyone starting their own business?

Nikki: That's a good one. In the words of Nike, just do it. Yes. We always say that!
Lucy: So many people start a business with a knowledge or a passion for one part of it. In our case, when we started Jagger and Stone, we were both marketing girls, so we just knew exactly what we wanted from a Marketing perspective. But there's so much more to starting a business than just the ‘one thing’. There's Finance, there's Operations, there's Compliance, there's Supply Chain. I think something that is valuable when you first start a brand is really learning and understanding all of those different departments.
Nikki: You don’t have to master all of them. You can hopefully hire a professional eventually, in each of those roles, but if you have an understanding of it, then it’s a game-changer.
Lucy: Yeah, and having that understanding of how everything works means you can also start to question, “Am I getting ripped off by this person?” or “Is this how growth is actually going to happen?” Looking back, I think if we had to put our thinking caps on a little bit more in the early years of our brand and learnt those things, our brand would be much bigger than it is now. It took us a long time before we finally got it, and we get it now, thank gosh!

2. What is your ideal self-care day?

Nikki: I feel like waking up, doing a workout, whatever you feel like on the day, or getting a coffee, going for a beach walk and a swim, and then probably a sauna and an ice bath. Oh, and maybe getting a blow-dry, to be honest!
Lucy: Honestly, if we're really going all out, I'm going to get my glam done, too!
Nikki: And then we're going to go have lunch!
Lucy: Yes! And drink cocktails! (laughs). Honestly, when people think of self-care, they mainly think of those internal things, like a workout and a sauna, which, don't get me wrong, is unreal! But for us, we also feel our best when our hair is done and we have nice clothes on.
Nikki: Yeah, I’ve been loving going to my hairdresser's just to wash my hair, have a little head massage, and get a blow dry!
Lucy: Maybe we could even go and buy a new little outfit at Pacific Fair.
Nikki: We went shopping recently, and we both bought Ugg boots, and we were like, ‘woohoo, baby’. {laughs]
Lucy: Haha, we never go shopping, and we were like, ‘woo, look at us in our Ugg boots’.
Nikki: I don't think we've taken them off!

3. What’s your current on-repeat song?

Lucy: It’s been a few weeks now, but probably still No Broke Boys by Disco Lines.
Nikki: I’ve been loving Spacey Jane’s new album. Every song is a journey - it’s so good.
Lucy: See how different we are? I’m all about No Broke Boys.
Nikki: I love that song too.

4. Who’s more likely to bail on a morning workout?

Nikki: Lucy.
Lucy: 1000%.
Lucy: Although I’m always grateful when I do show up.
Nikki: So am I, to be honest! [laughs]
Lucy: It’s definitely something I could work on.
Nikki: I never hold it against her, don’t worry.

5. What’s your go-to way to unwind?

Nikki: A walk on the beach with my dog or hanging out with friends.
Lucy: A bit of telly is quite nice too.
Nikki: I don’t like doing that straight after work.
Lucy: Oh no, never straight away.
Nikki: Later in the evening, for sure.
Lucy: I’ve always found it weird - I can’t watch TV right after work.
Lucy: You’re probably more into saunas than I am, but that’s a nice way to unwind after work.
Nikki: A nighttime sauna, for me, is just perfect!

6. Who takes longer to reply?

Lucy: Me.
Nikki: I’m not much better, to be honest.
Lucy: True. I don’t mean to take long, but I do.
Nikki: I used to be really good at carrying both of us, but lately I’ve dropped the ball too. It’s something I want to work on.
Lucy: Something you should work on, actually. [laughs]

7. Who’s better at setting boundaries?

Lucy: I don’t know what that means, per se. I think I have boundaries with myself.
Nikki: Do you? [laughs]
Lucy: I try. I don’t always understand how to set boundaries with other people.
Nikki: I think it depends. We take turns depending on what is happening in our lives. For example, when we were travelling a lot for work, once we got home, I just needed to be a hermit and nest and chill.
Lucy: I didn’t want to hang out with you either, to be honest. [laughs]
Nikki: Exactly - we weren’t making plans with anyone else. I just needed to be at home.
Lucy (to Nikki): You’re good at protecting your home time. I, on the other hand, love being out and about all the time.

8. What’s one piece of advice you wish you knew in your 20s?

Lucy: Enjoy it, because your 30s are harder – no, I probably shouldn’t say that!
Nikki: I’d say: people aren’t actually paying as much attention to you as you think. What you wear, what you say - it matters less to others than it feels in your head. It’s so internal.
Lucy: That’s so true.
Lucy: I met a woman recently who’d just moved to a new place. She said she felt awkward at the gym, like she didn’t fit in. I told her, honestly, no one really cares that much about what you’re doing. Everyone’s too focused on themselves. That’s something I wish I’d realised earlier.
Nikki: Yeah, and I think that’s just a perspective that comes with age, unfortunately - you have to go through it to get out of it, doll!
