B Corp FAQ
What is B Corp status in Australia?
The B in B Corp stands for ‘benefit for all’. B Corp was founded in the US in 2006 by three friends who shared the idea that a different kind of economy was not only possible, but necessary. B Corp works by using the power of business to do more than seek profit. B Corp certified companies are committed to bringing benefit not just to shareholders, but all business stakeholders — workers, customers, communities, and the planet.
What is B Lab?
As a result of the B Corp movement, the B Lab was established as the non-profit network that certifies companies known as B Corps. B Lab’s mission is to build a new economic system, ensuring that business brings benefit to all. B Lab certifies companies that meet high standards of social and environmental performance, transparency and accountability.
What are the benefits of B Corp?
As a company dedicated to making millions of people healthier and happier, H&H ANZ wanted to be certified by a network that would recognise the hard work we put in behind the scenes, and most importantly, holds us accountable. As Swisse is a brand of H&H ANZ, we are now part of a global community using business as a force for good. B Corp is much more than a logo to us. It is a set of core beliefs. It is a vision. It is a promise. It engages our entire ecosystem and it’s only the B-ginning.
How did H&H ANZ achieve B Corp Status?
Achieving B Corp status for H&H ANZ was not easy. It is a rigorous process that delved deep into all company activity across governance, people, customers, the environment and our workers. The certification is determined by a company adopting a legal framework and from the results of the B Corp impact assessment. The assessment has 200 questions along with a 3–6-month verification period. A company needs to score a minimum of 80 points to be successful, therefore over 60% of those who submit are unsuccessful. To ensure accountability, companies must also agree to their score appearing publicly on the main B Corp website and reapply for certification every three years.
How did H&H ANZ score on the assessment? What are the focus areas?
Achieving B Corp status was not the responsibility of just one person at Swisse, it was driven by the dedication and teamwork across multiple departments. It was this shared passion that has allowed us to achieve B Corp status before our original goal of 2025. Our overall impact score is 88.8, with our focus areas being governance, workers, community, environment and customers.
What’s next for H&H ANZ and Swisse in this space?
While we’re thrilled to reach this milestone ahead of our proposed 2025 goal, we’re not resting on our laurels. B Corp is not a final destination, it is a journey, and with certification up for renewal every three years, we know we have a lot more work to do. We’re excited to partner with the B Lab to forge our path forward and continue to expand on our efforts. Watch this space.
