Meet Your Balance Girl, Tess Shanahan!
Melbourne based model, presenter, business babe and honorary ray of sunshine, Tess is all about Balance, as well as the Swisse Skincare Balance range. Get to know her more.
What’s your skin type?
My skin has changed since my early 20’s. My skin is a lot more sensitive than it used to be, so I have to maintain a great regime. I have combination skin, pretty normal on the face but find my T-zone can get oily!
Talk us through your morning routine?
My current normal routine is wake up around 6:45am, give the dog a snack, then a coffee for myself! I’ll meditate for about 15 minutes followed by a 20-45-minute workout (run or gym sesh) then pop across the street for a super quick dip in the ocean with my housemate to stimulate blood flow and oxygen in the cold water! (Very grateful to live close to the beach!).
I’ll jump in hot shower and cleanse my face with the Swisse Olive Leaf Deep Cleansing Gel, and a few times a week follow it with the Swisse Bamboo Skin Refining Exfoliator, before popping on the Swisse Hemp Seed Replenishing Cream Moisturiser. I love this product so much, it’s so thick and hydrating, my skin just laps it up! It also sits beautiful under my makeup and doesn’t go oily. I’ll normally fast until lunchtime, but if I’m feeling super hungry, I'll have a fresh juice or supplement filled super smoothie!
What’s the best natural beauty tip that you have received?
What you put in, reflects what comes out! Having a wholesome diet filled with lots of fruit and vegetables has been key to keep my skin glowing! Lots of fresh juices always brightens my face :)
Current Swisse Skincare obsession?
The Swisse Matcha Tea Anti-Pollution Clay Mask! My housemate and I have a cute evening every week pampering ourselves.
What role does wellness play in your life? How do you incorporate it into your daily routine (movement/mind/nutrition)?
I have always had a huge passion for health and wellness. It’s part of the reason I started Tess Talks events, to share knowledge from professionals about the benefits of different lifestyle practises and teachings.
Health is really the most important thing we have, if we don’t have good health we can’t function in the other areas of our life. It took me years to find a routine that really stuck. Now, I have quite a set routine, which I really look forward to because my whole life seems more fluid when I keep it up. It includes 10-20 mins mediation every morning (I love Mantra mediations because it helps me have a focus point), a short journal entry every day expressing thoughts and something I’m grateful for, a run or gym session about 5 times per week, and lastly I eat pretty clean - probably 80-20! Everything is about balance and I’ve learnt to not be hard on myself if I occasionally slip out of routine or lose motivation - after all we are just human!
What does Healthy Beautiful mean to you?
You know those people you see walking down the street, or maybe someone you know, who always glows from the inside out? I do! And that’s the vibe I strive to hold. Beauty that shines out of someone because they look after themselves, physically, through nourishing products and food, and mentally, through positivity, self-love and gratitude. That’s Healthy Beautiful!
What’s your Healthy Beautiful message to the Swisse Squad?
Self-love is key! It’s not about being selfish, yet about thanking yourself for being the amazing human you are! When you love yourself, you become deserving and capable of attracting what you want, you attract people who reflect your loving energy, and you are at peace with yourself! With all the content surrounding us, it can be quite easy to veer off this track and over compare ourselves to others, which is a dangerous trap.
Keep practising these thoughts and it’s amazing what comes your way!
Finally, who would you like to do a Swisse Skincare Mask with?
The Olsen twins for suuuure! I’d love to have a girl’s night in with them, a few glasses of red, Swisse Skincase Masks, then get some killer styling tips and business advice from these two super humans.
