We asked you to vote for Australia’s behind-the-scenes footy superstar and you did, in your hundreds. We heard from people far and wide across the country, keen to celebrate their dedicated legends who make it all happen at their local club, day after day.

We loved each and every one of your entries. It was wonderful to hear about the heroes who devote themselves to helping your club shine. It was no easy feat, but we managed to identify the 12 special superstars who really go above and beyond.

Swisse Best Off Ground Winner

It’s with great pleasure that we announce Simon Greenhill from Border Walwa Football Netball Club (VIC) as our Swisse Best Off Ground Winner 2018. Simon has been described as the “driving force” behind keeping Border Walwa FC going for the last 25 years, after joining the club as a child.

It’s hard to describe Simon’s role at the club in just a few words – he’s the football manager, trainer, scoreboard attendant, boundary umpire, team manager for seniors and seconds, taxi driver to and from training, maintenance man around the club, and the guy who cleans the rooms after game day when the last player has left. He even used to mow the oval by hand until he recently managed to acquire a lawnmower from the local golf club.

Simon (R) and his nominator, Craig Bosley (L)

An unassuming man with a big heart, Simon truly encapsulates the very essence of Swisse Best Off Ground. In the past, he has even delivered food hampers to struggling club members. Ask around the club and words that immediately spring forward are “committed”, “worthy”, “legend”, “proud clubman” and “humble”.

Simon, you are indeed a worthy winner and we’re delighted to award you Swisse Best Off Ground Winner 2018!

Swisse Best Off Ground Runner Up and Finalists

Congratulations to Sue Lea from Calivil United Football Netball Club (VIC), our Swisse Best Off Ground Runner Up. Sue has been a dedicated club volunteer for over 30 years and is described as a “second mum” to the footy boys and netball girls. She’s in the clubrooms at 7am on game day and is always the last to leave, working hard behind the scenes to keep things running smoothly. She even organises a Monday morning coffee group for the local community to raise money for the club, who say they would be “totally lost” without her.

In no particular order, our ten Swisse Best Off Ground finalist superstars are:

  • Philipa Seth - East Fremantle Sharks (WA)
  • Glen McKechnie - Tea Tree Gully District Football Club (SA)
  • Nobby – Kolora-Noorat Football Netball Club (VIC)
