It takes a lot to be part of a Formula 1 team. From nutrition, exercise, talent and dedication, Ferrari sporting manager Jock Clear is here to tell us what’s needed to speed with the world’s best.
“Training is important in Formula 1. The team trains continuously, whether that’s drivers training behind the wheel of the car or the pitstop team training in the pitstop. They are working constantly to perfect their skills, to ensure they perform at their best.
“The pitstop is a crucial area of Formula One, and our extensive training program for the team reflects its importance. It’s imperative that the people who work in the pitstop are in excellent shape and are at peak performance.
“While training is critical, just as important is the team’s drive to excel. It’s a passion, it’s what you breathe in Scuderia Ferrari.”
“We’re lucky enough to have our own chef with us during all the Grands Prix, as it’s important the team consumes the necessary ‘fuel’ for them to operate at maximum levels.”
What does the team eat? “Carbohydrates, proteins, vegetables and fruit. We have dietitians who work with our cook to ensure the team consumes necessary important nutrients. It’s a balancing act, really: the fuel you put in and the fuel you consume.”
Finally, how does the F1 team ensure health? “On the Formula One circuit, the Scuderia Ferrari team has a physio and physician on site, to help ensure optimum health. We focus on specific training, to motivate them to be more active.”
