Which skincare oil is right for you?

Dry, oily, combination, sensitive? You can benefit from incorporating oils into your routine. Here’s how.

What is a skincare oil?

Apart from something many people are confused about how to use properly, oils are extracted from plant seeds and provide essential fatty acids (EFAs) to the skin surface. These acids are absolutely essential for maintaining healthy skin.

Imagine the upper levels of your skin like a house made of bricks. The skin cells are the bricks and the lipids act as the cement or the “glue” that keeps these skin cells together. The lipids in the skin provide a water barrier, trapping moisture within to keep the hydration balance. And, they double as a protector against environmental bad guys: microbes, irritants and pollutants. Winning.

When the balance of lipids is compromised, the natural “cement” breaks down. Cue dry, flaky face, and allergies and impurities, inviting irritation and sensitivity to develop.

How to use oils in your skincare routine

Applying oils daily is a great way to balance and replenish your skin’s natural oil content, stop dehydration in its tracks and smooth your skin texture.

Swisse Skincare Oils are naturally sourced and bursting with antioxidants, which means they also help premature aging from environmental exposure. Plus, they contain a signature blend of essential oils – grapefruit, orange peel, palmarosa, may chang, and rose geranium. So which is best for you?

Swisse Argan Face Oil: ideal for normal to dry skin types

Argan oil contains omega 3, 6, and 9 EFA’s. The highest content is the omega 9 EFA (oleic acid) which allows this oil to penetrate rapidly and leave no oily residue. It’s naturally high in vitamin E and also contains squalene and plant sterols that are natural components of sebum. Like a green juice for your skin barrier – healthy.

Swisse Argan Facial Oil helps improve the appearance of:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Dry and sun damaged skin
  • Dry hair and brittle nails

To build on the benefits of your skincare routine, use Swisse Natural Defence Moisturiser SPF15 or Swisse Argan Facial Moisturiser for day, and Swisse Argan Face Oil at night.

Swisse Rose Hip Oil: ideal for all skin types, including blemish prone and sensitive

Rose hip oil contains a higher ratio of omega 3 (alpha-linoleic acid) and 6 (linoleic acid) EFAs with only a small amount of Omega 9 EFA. Linoleic acid is a very important component of the skin’s natural lipid content and is the key to maintaining a healthy skin barrier. ALA and linoleic acid have an anti-inflammatory effect and blemish prone-skin is often deficient in this particular EFA.

Rose hip oil naturally contains tannins which also provide a slightly astringent effect, allowing for a “dry” feel.

Swisse Rose Hip Oil helps to improve the appearance of:

  • Uneven skin tone
  • Enlarged pores
  • Dry and sun damaged skin
  • Fine lines and wrinkles

To build on the benefits of your skincare routine, use Swisse Echinacea Clear Skin Moisturiser or Swisse Rose Hip Facial Moisturiser for the day, and Swisse Rose Hip Oil at night.

Swisse Cranberry Antioxidant Facial Oil is an antioxidant-packed oil blend containing a combination of cranberry, raspberry, pomegranate, grape seed and tomato seed oils.

This combination of oils provides a balanced delivery of omega 3, 6, and 9 EFA’s as well as phytosterols that provide an added benefit in restoring key skin lipids.

The antioxidant combination in the Swisse Cranberry Antioxidant Facial Oil helps to improve the appearance of:

  • Tired, dull looking skin
  • Uneven skin tone
  • Dry and sun damaged skin
  • Fine lines and wrinkles

To build on the benefits of your skincare routine, complement with Swisse CoQ10 Anti-aging Facial Moisturiser for day, and Swisse Hibiscus Anti-aging Night Cream and Swisse Cranberry Antioxidant Facial Oil at night.

Swisse Multivitamin Repair Body Oil: ideal for all skin types (and during pregnancy)*

Like the Fugees’ cover of Killing Me Softly, some things are better than the original. The Swisse Multivitamin Repair Body Oil has been developed to improve on the original Swisse Bioactive Nature Oil.

How? It’s got the same natural source and provides a nourishing “dry” finish without any greasy residue. But the real gamechanger is the addition of vitamins C, E and beta-carotene (vitamin A derivative), as well as colloidal silica to enhance vitamin absorption and provide a silky feel. Perfect if you’re pregnant or have sensitive skin, as there’s no added fragrance or essential oils.

Daily use of the Swisse Multivitamin Repair Body Oil can help improve the appearance of:

  • Aged, dry or dehydrated skin
  • Scars and stretch marks
  • Uneven skin tone
  • Sun damaged skin

To maintain healthy, glowing skin, shower with Swisse Lemongrass Body Wash, followed with Swisse Sea Salt Body Polish, and then apply Swisse Multivitamin Repair Body Oil for an all-over body glow.
