What is protein and why do I need it?

Protein is an essential nutrient used for many bodily processes. Proteins are made up of 20 different amino acids, nine of which are essential and must come from the diet. Protein is continually being made and broken down by the body and during exercise, protein breakdown is greater than synthesis. Consuming protein straight after exercise delivers the amino acids the body needs to repair and build new muscle.

What are amino acids?

Amino acids are organic compounds that combine to form proteins, which help perform many physiological functions, including muscle growth and repair. Amino acids are categorized into three groups; essential, non-essential and conditionally essential. Essential amino acids cannot be produced by the body and therefore must be obtained through the diet. The body requires a daily intake of amino acids as they are continuously broken down and then put back together to perform many different functions in the body.

What is Leucine?

Leucine is a branched-chain amino acid (BCAA). It is considered the most active of the BCAAs and together with iso-leucine and valine, it is responsible for maximizing muscle protein synthesis. Leucine is an essential amino acid, which means it cannot be produced by the body and therefore must be obtained through the diet.

What is whey protein are where does it come from?

Whey is the watery portion of milk that separates from the curds when making cheese. Pure Warrior whey protein is sourced from Australia and New Zealand and comes from 100% grass-fed cattle.

Why is grass-fed whey important?

Some protein powders use whey protein from corn-fed cattle. Because cows naturally eat grass and have a digestive system to cope with this, grass-fed protein may have superior nutritional value to corn-fed protein.

What is the difference between Whey Protein Concentrate and Whey Protein Isolate?

Whey Protein Isolate is put through an additional manufacturing process called micro-filtration. This process removes excess lactose, fat, sugar and carbohydrate, resulting in a purer more concentrated protein product. Whey Protein Isolate also has a higher content of branched chain amino acids, in particular Leucine, which are the building blocks of protein.

Why is a sweetener used in Pure Warrior Powered By Swisse™ products?

The Pure Warrior Powered By Swisse™ protein range use sucralose. Sucralose is a sugar alternative that has zero calories or carbohydrate content. It is very sweet, which means only very small quantities are needed. Sucralose helps make a great tasting protein powder and is suitable for everyone to use.

When is the best time to consume protein powder?

The best time to consume a protein powder is within 30 minutes of exercise. During recovery, we want to provide the body with the essential macronutrients it needs to repair and rebuild muscle. It is this process of muscle repair which contributes to muscle growth. Consuming protein within 30 minutes of exercise delivers the essential amino acids the body needs to repair and build muscle.

Why are there only a few ingredients in the Pure WarriorPowered By Swisse™ protein products?

The Pure Warrior range includes pure and clean protein formulas that have no unnecessary fillers. This means there is more room for protein! A protein powder with more ingredients is not always better. It is important to watch out for added ingredients that can sometimes be used as fillers.

Why does Pure Warrior Powered By Swisse™ Extreme Bulk contain skim milk powder when no other products in range have this ingredient?

Pure Warrior Extreme Bulk uses skim milk powder to optimise the carbohydrate content. Carbohydrates are important to provide the body with the energy it needs to fuel optimal muscle gain.

Why is Pure Warrior Powered By Swisse™ Extreme Bulk high in sugar?

The key to building muscle mass is to consume more kilojoules than the body needs whilst still engaging in regular strength training. Pure Warrior Extreme Bulk is high in sugar, which contributes to the additional kilojoules the body needs to increase muscle size.

Is training on an empty stomach good for me?

If you are training early in the morning and you want to build muscle, it is important to eat something before you train. This will ensure the body has the fuel and energy it needs to train optimally and ensures resources are saved to promote muscle repair and recovery. Don’t eat anything too heavy before a workout; try a light, energy dense snack such as banana and oats or an omelette with avocado.

Is Pure Warrior Powered By Swisse™ suitable for vegetarians?

Is Pure Warrior Powered By Swisse™ suitable for vegans?
